A network of rose gardens has emerged throughout the country. These parks and gardens of various sizes have been made possible through collaboration with private individuals, embassies, communities and public actors. The non-profit organization Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg has played a key role in advising and planning these gardens. You will find a selection of gardens worth visiting under 'Gardens to Visit'.

Many large and small parks and gardens have been planted across the country.
Quality guidelines for rose gardens have been developed. Organic gardens, without the use of pesticides, are encouraged.
Volunteering is promoted to ensure better maintenance of the rose beds.

• Protection and enhancement of rose heritage in Luxembourg
• Raising awareness among young people, the general public, authorities and the media
• Creation of a national network of rose gardens
• Promoting biodiversity and biological care of pesticide-free gardens
• Make Luxembourg a land of beautiful gardens and parks, thus diversifying the offer of green tourism and family outings
• Increasing public knowledge and know-how about roses
• Collecting historical documents and objects related to the rose heritage
• Work to ensure that Luxembourg can still bear today the title 'Country of Roses' and thus preserve this page of the country's history

History of the organisation

In 2013, one hundred years after the beginning of the First World War, the preservation of the precious rose heritage of Luxembourg was not guaranteed. Indeed, the population was no longer really aware of it and there had not been any specialized rose breeder for decades.

In order to sustainably safeguard this exceptional heritage, whether ancient or contemporary, it is essential that it finds its way back to the heads, hearts and gardens. This is the aim of our non-profit organisation 'Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg', which works in cooperation with other associations as well as many public and private actors. The first statutes were published in the Mémorial on 30.11.2013.

Since the beginning of the asbl, a constant awareness of the population has been carried out through multiple actions, such as interviews with public authorities, press releases and conferences. One-off projects have also been carried out in collaboration with the latter. Some striking examples: the rose-growers' house Bourg-Gemen in Limpertsberg has been saved from demolition thanks to preservation initiatives and the Luxembourg City Museum, since May 2017, includes in its permanent exhibition a theme dedicated to the history of the rose heritage.
