On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a festive ceremony was held at Berg Castle, where Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess baptized a new rose, meaningfully named 'Resilience', in the presence of Prime Minister Luc Frieden, representatives of the Second World War Memorial Service and members of the association Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg.
This commemorative rose pays tribute to all those who fought for freedom and is introduced as part of the commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
The rose 'Resilience' stands for the ability to overcome trauma and rebuild a future, much like the efforts made by Luxembourg and Europe after 1945. Its name stands for a strong message, in an actual international context where peace and democratic values must be defended with conviction.
Because France and Luxembourg shared a similar destiny during the years 1940-1945, Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg wished to entrust the creation of this commemorative rose to a French rose grower. 'Résilience' is an achievement of Jérôme Rateau, from the Roses Anciennes André Eve establishments in the Loire Valley.
This rose bush, slightly perfumed, is distinguished by its bundles of 4 to 6 flowers in elegant cuts, with silky petals, slightly wavy, in a delicious composition in cream, edged in mottled pink, evolving towards a delicate light white pink. Its clearly visible stamens attract pollinating insects. With its dark, semi-glossy and disease-resistant foliage, it reaches a height of 100 to 120 cm and blooms generously from May to October. It is suitable for all gardens and parks and should bloom especially in memory sites.
