The Grand Duchy's first and oldest public rose garden was created in 1934 on the heights of Gaalgebierg Park (Gallows Hill) in Esch-sur-Alzette. Known as the “land of roses”, Luxembourg exported nearly 1,150,000 rose plants in 1934.
The Gaalgebierg municipal park, with its flowerbeds and French gardens, is well worth a visit. Surrounded by large lawns and remarkable trees, the perfectly tended flowerbeds feature a multitude of international roses, as well as a collection of roses with links to Luxembourg. The rose garden is located in the heart of the green lung of the town of Esch-sur-Alzette. In this preserved natural setting, visitors will discover a bird protection area, an animal park with tree houses, sports fields and playgrounds.
