The rose garden at Mamer Castle and its famous sports heroes

Free access
Address: 1, rue de l’Indépendance L-8252 Mamer
Inaugurations in 2019 and 2022

The origins of Mamer Castle date back to the Middle Ages. It has had various owners over the centuries. Restored after its acquisition by the municipality of Mamer, the castle is home to the municipal administration since 2002. A public park lies behind it. Since 2019, the natural rural environment of this park is the ideal setting for a collection of Luxembourg roses. The grassy area between the flowerbeds allows visitors to get up close and discover the perfumes of the roses.
The sculpture by Luxembourg artist Will Lofy commemorates the achievements of two sporting heroes: Nicolas Frantz (winner of the Tour de France in 1927 and 1928) and Josy Barthel (Olympic champion in the 1500m race in Helsinki in 1952).
