Introduction of the rose 'Esch-sur-Sûre', 2023

Bright autumn weather for an unusual celebration that took place on Sunday, September 24, 2023, in the presence of numerous invited guests in the beautiful Ösling village of Esch-sur-Sûre, as part of the cultural events ‘ESCH23, Esch-Sauer säit 927'. Mayor Laurent Hilger and Marco Schank, President of 'Gaart & Heem Eschduerf/Esch-Sauer', presented a new rose, which is now registered in the rose register under the name 'Esch-sur-Sûre'. The association 'Patrimoine Roses pour le Luxembourg' provided advice on the selection of the new rose. Two long-standing and deserving members of the section „Gaart & Heem Eschduerf/Esch-Sauer“, Mrs Micheline Neissen-Origer and Mr Lucien Eicher, were godparents. Ann and Rudi Velle of the well-known rose breeder's house LENS ROSES from Oudenburg (B) took the long journey to bring a huge bouquet of the new rose to Esch-sur-Sûre. It is a healthy moschata hybrid whose fragrant flowers are like fireworks: a delicate yellow-orange that develops into a bright pink, depending on soil and light. A special feature are the bronze-colored healthy leaves and the impressive dark thorns. The richly flowering variety is bee-friendly and blooms into autumn.

Introduction of the rose 'Helix', 2023

'Helix' was introduced on May 31, 2023, on the occasion of the inauguration of Post Luxembourg's new HELIX headquarters, designed by Metaform Architects, opposite Luxembourg Central Station. In the presence of Pierre Zimmer, Deputy Director General of POST Luxembourg, godfather Shahram Agaajani, architect of the HELIX building, and godmother Isabelle Faber, Director of Human Resources, Public Relations and CSR at POST Luxembourg, baptized the rose 'Helix' with water from the Weierbaach, a stream that flows along POST's buildings in Cloche d'Or. The 'Helix' rose is a robust, easy-care, bee-friendly ground cover rose bred by rose creator Martin Vissers (VIVA INTERNATIONAL, Belgium). Its flower has five white petals and yellow stamens. Flowering lasts from June to November. In winter, it is adorned with many rose hips. The perfume is subtle. Simplicity is what makes this decorative ground cover rose so beautiful. The 20-30 cm rose plant is suitable for a shallower soil depth and thrives in pots. Thanks to its exceptional characteristics, the Rose 'Helix' has been awarded in international competitions.

Introduction of the rose 'Amalia Rose', 2023

'Amalia Rose' was introduced on May 26, 2023 in the Luxembourg City Park, on the occasion of the inauguration of the rose garden near the Amalia Monument. This rose garden is planted with roses dedicated to the deserving women of Luxembourg. This rose honors Amalia Maria da Gloria Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1830-1872), daughter of Duke Charles Bernard of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and Ida of Saxe-Meiningen. She makes the acquaintance of Prince Henry of the Netherlands in Madeira. Prince Henri had been appointed Lieutenant-Representative for Luxembourg by his brother King William III, King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg. They married in 1853 and lived at the castle of Walferdange. The couple is highly appreciated by the population, with Princess Amélie showing great charity. Suffering from pneumonia, Princess Amélie dies at the age of 42. Her memorial is located in the City Park of Luxembourg. The epigraph of the pedestal 'Princess Henry of the Netherlands' is characteristic of the social position of women at that time. As the regent’s wife, Princess Amalia engages primarily in charitable works. She is revered as the nation’s mother. The rose bush with its changing pink tones was created by Jean-Lin Lebrun (MELA ROSA, France). Godmothers: Lydie Polfer (Mayor of the City of Luxembourg), Sonja Fandel (Head of the Parks Department, City of Luxembourg)
