The rose 'Dr. Louise Welter' was introduced on May 23, 2023, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the completion of her medical studies by Luxembourg's first female doctor in 1923. In 1926, she was appointed school doctor for the city of Luxembourg and from then on she worked to improve the health conditions of children, both to improve their living conditions and their physical condition, by organizing gymnastics classes and promoting vaccinations. This purple-violet rambler rose, bred by KORDES ROSEN, was donated by the Patrimoine Roses Luxembourg association as part of its rose series for deserving Luxembourg women. Godmothers: Dr. Christiane Zettinger and Dr. Françoise Fandel
On May 12, 2023, in the beautiful setting of the garden of the renovated Maison d'Osbourg in Grevenmacher, a new rose was named 'Machera'. The alderman Monique Hermes, in her very precise presentation, recounted the tormented history of the city of Moselle, Machera being one of the first documented names of the city. Léon Gloden, mayor and member of parliament, welcomed the initiative to have a new rose baptized, a beautiful way to spread the image of the Luxembourg Moselle Metropolis far beyond its territory. This action is fully in line with the City’s embellishment project. Thus, several rose bushes are already blooming in the grounds of the Osbourg Garden and on the esplanade of the Moselle. He thanked the association 'Patrimoine Roses pour le Luxembourg' for its support in carrying out this beautiful project. The musical accompaniment during the ceremony was provided by the students of the Regional School of Music of Grevenmacher. The godmother of the rose is Wine Queen 2022, Zoé Schoeben, alongside the godfather Guido Kliska, head gardener of the city of Grevenmacher. The new rose creation was bred by Ann Velle-Boudolff from LENS ROSES, internationally renowned and based in Belgium. In the beginning of its flowering the roses are of a tender golden yellow, to then fade to a pearly white. The dark foliage is very healthy. The variety, a rose bush hybrid of moschata, reaches a height of 100 cm, and blooms throughout the summer and perfumes with a sweet and spicy scent.
The rose 'Lady in Gold, syn. Gëlle Fra' was introduced as part of the centenary festivities of the Commemoration Monument 'Gëlle Fra'. The 'Gëlle Fra' Monument, created by the artist Claus Cito and inaugurated at Place de la Constitution in Luxembourg in 1923, was erected in memory of the Luxembourgish soldiers who died during the First World War. The 'Gëlle Fra' is a symbol of freedom and resistance for the Luxembourg population. The floribunda rose, with soft yellow roses, created by the rose grower Ann Velle-Boudolf (LENS ROSES), was introduced on March 06, 2023, at the Ministry of State, Hotel Saint Maximin in Luxembourg. Godfather: Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister, Minister of State Godmother: Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg In honor of the rose 'Lady in Gold, syn.
