A floribunda rose much appreciated for its warm, soft golden yellow colour, fresh fragrance and generous flowering, which is almost continuous throughout the summer. Conical buds release flowers with around thirty petals, either solitary or in clusters on sturdy stems that are ideal for vase arrangements. Its thick olive-green foliage is disease-resistant. Planted in groups in a border of perennials, this rose is particularly graceful.
In 1923, Claus Cito, a Luxembourgish sculptor, created the “Gëlle Fra” memorial monument in tribute to Luxembourgish soldiers who fought in the First World War. Destroyed in 1940 by the German occupiers, the golden woman did not return to her pedestal on Constitution Square until 1984. Today, the iconic monument is a symbol of the freedom and resistance of the Luxembourgish population.
The rose “Lady in Gold – Gëlle Fra” was inaugurated on 6 March 2023 at the Ministry of State as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations of the “Gëlle Fra” memorial.
