Grouped in clusters, the oval buds of the floribunda rose “Melusina” open into large, semi-double flowers of a bright salmon pink. A fine pearly border on the edges of the outer petals and a tuft of yellow stamens in the centre emphasise the elegance of this rose. The flowers have a very light fragrance and stand out well against the bronze foliage, which is free from disease. This very robust, clustered-flowering rose deserves a place in gardens and public spaces.
During the Congress of Young European Horticulturists in Luxembourg in 2011, the “Melusina” rose was introduced beneath the “Bock” rock, the mythical site of the founding of Luxembourg. The legend of the beautiful “Melusine”, who disappeared forever in the waters of the Alzette River, is closely linked to the character of Count Siegfried, founder of the City of Luxembourg in 963.
